The Songs of Christmas: Day 5

Every day ’til Christmas, we’re sharing a story from your family at FN. Would you rather get them straight to your inbox? Click here and choose “The Songs of Christmas: (Daily Emails Dec 2015).”

O Holy Night

Sitting around the Thanksgiving table, conversation turned to Heaven. We’ve all had that conversation many times before. You know, what exactly will we do all the time? Will we get to eat? Surely, we will get to eat.  About those harps… and glorified bodies…. After 30 minutes of careful consideration and discussion, I don’t know if I knew any more about Heaven than I knew when I had that first delicious bite of my aunt’s perfect turkey and dressing. That’s okay. Pretty much, the only thing that I know for sure about Heaven is that music is and will be there.

But not just any kind of music. Don’t get me wrong, I love hearing a good harp (for a few minutes, at least). But I truly believe there is music going on in heaven right now that is music rightly fit for royalty, our King of Kings. Earth penetrating, powerful music. Music that glorifies the trinity of God justly and splendidly.

The beauty and miracle of this is that God – in His mercy – allows us to experience this same music here on Earth.

Music can be all around us – while singing a little one to sleep, driving to the hospital to see a hurting loved one, celebrating an anniversary, or even while enjoying a hot cleansing shower.

O Holy Night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth
Long lay the world
In sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt it’s worth
The thrill of Hope
The weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
O night Divine
O night when Christ was born

O night Divine
O night, O night Divine

I am thankful that God sees fit to allow part of heaven on earth.  Worship changes things.  It changes me.  The same instrument God gave the angels, He gave to you and to me.

Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break, for the slave is His brother
And in His name
All oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise His holy name
Christ is the Lord
Oh praise His name forever
His power and glory evermore proclaim
